Center for Data and Research on Contemporary Social Life, Fudan University (CDRCSL)

The CDRCSL is established in 2011. CDRCSL and UCLA Contemporary China Study Center co-founded Fudan-UCLA Joint Center for Comparative Studies of Social Life in 2012.After seven years’ efforts, the CDRCSL has collected more than 200 kinds of materials about social life from different provinces. And its holdings ranks top among similar institutions.

In 2012, Director Zhang Letian won the bidding in the project “China’s Contemporary Rural Grassroots Archive Collection, Classification and Publication”. in 2017, Brill Academic Publisher published Chronicles of Contemporary Chinese Social Life.

Under the support of École des hautes études en sciences socials France, Professor Zhang’s team has successfully edited electronic publication: China’s fieldwork-Zhang Letian’s Database of Lianmin Village ( The database is issued in home and abroad by China Social Sciences Academic Press in 2015. Now, CDRCSL cooperates with Fudan University Library to build a new database.
